Refugee and Migrant Ākonga Study Pathways and Careers Event

This event will provide an opportunity to students to explore their preferred pathways independently. It would also allow for those who prefer family’s support in making career decisions to join in with their whanau. We hope to see direct impact for Refugee and migrant ākonga in the following ways. They will: ——–
• Remain engaged at school and be well prepared for post-secondary options by seeking appropriate support from teachers and school community
• Understand study pathways and make informed decisions about NCEA subjects and credits required to enter tertiary education of choice or another career pathway
• Know what study pathways are available, where, how to apply and what resources and support they can receive from providers
• Be inspired about their future and learn essential self-development strategies to reach their career goals
The event will have tertiary providers, study links, Industry training organisations and other educational groups. We will also have three specific sessions the topics below and a panel discussion:
• Wellbeing/ self-development and goal setting for future
• NCEA subject selection/Secondary transition
• Understanding tertiary Pathways and transitions
• Panel session of ex-students and their educational journeys
